Congratulations on Becoming a Portfolio Manager
Submitted by Parkhouse Financial / Portfolio Strategies Corporation on September 16th, 2015Dear Clients & Friends,
We are pleased to announce that Nathan Parkhouse has recently achieved the designation of “Portfolio Manager”.
Becoming a Portfolio Manager is one of the investment industry’s most prestigious professional distinctions. It is reserved solely for an elite group of experienced financial service professionals whom meet the highest standards for advanced education, ethical conduct, industry experience and peer endorsement.
The Benefits of Your Investment Advisor being a Portfolio Manager (PM):
1. Personalized Investment Policy Statement
Customized management of your portfolio designed through a personalized Investment Policy Statement (IPS): an individual written agreement will be established to set out how you will work with your portfolio manager, including ongoing communication, types of investments, reporting, fees, risks and other issues related to your own, unique circumstances.
2. Model Portfolio Management
Model portfolios custom designed by your portfolio manager that utilize a broader range of securities such as ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), alternative investments, managed portfolios and individual stocks aimed towards enhancing returns and reducing risk.
3. Discretionary Management
Investment trades are made on your behalf, within the parameters of your Investment Policy Statement, allowing your portfolio manager to make changes of individual investment holdings without getting prior approval from you for each transaction (called ‘discretionary management’).
4. Standard of Care
Portfolio managers have a fiduciary duty to act with care, honesty and good faith, always in the best interest of their clients. Investment decisions therefore must be independent and free of bias. This results in a higher level of trust placed on portfolio managers.
5. Fee Transparency & Deductibility
Portfolio managers charge a percentage of the investments they manage. This fee is transparent and generally much less than retail management and distribution costs, which are often embedded as a cost of doing business. Fees are fully transparent on client statements and typically decrease as a percentage of your portfolio as your asset growth attains specific milestones. Fees are not paid by commission based on volume of buying or selling investments and are significantly lower than typical mutual fund fees.
In order to maintain the PM designation along with the distinguished Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) & Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI®) designations, Nathan had to do more than demonstrate exceptional competence in technical knowledge and principled professional behaviour. As a condition of receiving and maintaining each of the CFP® & FCSI®, he must commit himself formally to continuing to make an annual leadership contribution to the investment industry. This reflects a unique level of maturity, capability and integrity.
We trust these recognitions are meaningful to you. It signifies you are working with an exemplary investment professional whose affirmation as a fellow by top-tier colleagues and the Canadian Securities Institute is granted to only the most committed advisors.
If you have questions about any of the above mentioned designations, please contact Nathan directly or visit the specific links: Portfolio Manager, Certified Financial Planner and Fellow of Canadian Securities Course.
Sincerely,
Oded Orgil, LL.B. | Executive Vice-President, Head of Retail | Portfolio Strategies Securities Inc.
